You can’t stop the signs of facial aging, but you can turn back time with a variety of cosmetic injectables that diminish fine lines and moderate to deep wrinkles. Alethia Pantazis, MD, at Vitality Medicine has extensive experience restoring your youthful looks by injecting Botox (or other nearly identical medications eg. Dysport, Xeomin) as well as dermal fillers such as Restylane®. To learn more about the different injectables available and how they can improve your appearance, call the office in Ocala, Florida, or schedule an appointment online.
Botox is a form of botulinum toxin that’s injected to treat facial wrinkles. After Dr. Pantazis injects Botox into a muscle, the medication blocks nerve signals that make muscles contract. As the muscles relax, the wrinkles they cause are diminished or eliminated.
Facial wrinkles may look the same to you, but you actually have two types. Static wrinkles are caused by natural, age-related changes in your skin, such as thinning and drying skin, and the loss of collagen and elastin.
Dynamic wrinkles, meanwhile, come from the repetitive muscle movements used to make facial expressions. Since Botox targets muscles, it treats moderate-to-severe dynamic wrinkles, including:
You can be confident that you’ll maintain a natural appearance because Dr. Pantazis injects only a few specific muscles. The rest of your facial muscles move freely and continue to show your emotions.
One session usually takes about 10 minutes, depending on the number of wrinkles being treated. It’s normal for the injection sites to be slightly red and swollen, but you can get back to your normal activities when your treatment is finished.
Results appear in 5-7 days, and your refreshed appearance lasts up to four months.* As your results gradually wear off, you can choose to get another Botox treatment. Many patients find that their results last longer with subsequent injections.
Restylane is the name of a group of products called dermal fillers. The Restylane products contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that’s naturally produced in your skin, where it binds with water and adds facial volume.
Although Restylane fillers are injected, they don’t target muscles. Instead, they’re injected just below the skin, where they plump up and diminish fine lines and wrinkles and restore the loss of volume.
Each Restylane product is produced with different-sized particles of hyaluronic acid so they target specific aesthetic problems. One formula smooths facial wrinkles and folds, another one enhances lips, and a third lifts and adds volume to cheeks.
